Your Dog and Food Allergies

Food allergies are as predominant in the canine world as they are in the human world. The trend towards natural and organic food is helping these dogs eat a safe nutritious diet. Allergies appear in many forms, some simple, some hidden and intense.

Wheat allergies are prominent and especially prevalent in some breeds. That one isn't that hard to go around. There are foods out there on the supermarket shelves that do not contain wheat. The next step up is grain allergies. These dogs can eat no grain at all. This presents a different problem for the owner. Most commercial dog foods do contain some grains, corn, wheat, barley being the most prevalent. Recently some companies have started manufacturing grain free foods.

The grain free foods that are easiest to find at the pet store will usually contain some type of fish and potato base. Dogs do like fish. Some have sweet potatoes which are loaded with anti-oxidants for good health.

Along comes meat and is it possible that dogs can be allergic to some meats? Yes it is. There have been instances where a dog was allergic to cooked beef but tolerated raw more easily. This can be the case with chicken as well. Lamb doesn't seem to have as many issues as beef and chicken. If food allergies to meat are present in your dog, remember to read the labels closely. Also, if you dog is allergic to a particular meat product chances are the liver or gizzards will react in the same way.

There are many breeders who have switched to what was once called the BARF diet. It consists of bones and raw food. There are those who swear by them and wouldn't consider feeding their dogs commercial or even home cooked foods. Before embarking on the raw diet, some research needs to be done. Your veterinarian is the best consultant for that project.

That will bring us to bones. There is so much talk about not feeding dogs bones. If your dog is not allergic to the meat the bone came from he can eat the bone RAW. Raw bones do not splinter as easily as cooked bones. Be careful with your dogs and small bones of any kind. The larger knuckle bones or thigh bones are safer for the chewers in your home.

In the vegetable category, there has been recent issues with corn and soy. Diarrhea, vomiting and other symptoms can present with these food allergies.

The best advice one can offer is to consult with your veterinarian and carefully read the nutritional label on the food you purchase for your dog. The ingredient labels on dog food works the same as it does on human food. They are listed in the order of their proportion to the food. If meat is 5th on the list, you may have junk in your basket.

Don't forget to check the treats as well. Enjoy your happy, healthy friends and feed them well. They are bound to show their appreciation for the good care you administer to them.

Dog Allergies, Itching and Licking

Parasites

The most common reason dogs lick constantly itch and scratch is fleas, ticks and mites, also an extremely easy to deal with the problem. Fleas can have unnecessary discomfort for a dog, and it is a simple treatment to prevent it. If left untreated, fleas can also cause anemia and tapeworms.

With so many different ways to protect our pets from fleas and ticks, veterinarians are still many dogs with flea problems on a daily basis. Spot treatments are thecommon and seem to be the most effective way to control fleas, ticks and mites. Avoid dog skin problems are caused by fleas and ticks by on-site treatments at regular intervals or as directed by the manufacturer or your veterinarian.

Dog Allergies

My Black Lab "Lady" suffered with dog skin allergies since we brought her home, like a dog rescued from more than 11 years. Over the years I've learned that allergies can be just as difficult to determine in dogs, as they are in humans.Allergies occur when the body's own immune system is weakened, which can be caused by improper or insufficient diet. Feeding home made organic dog food with added supplements or the top model of the organic dog food is the easiest way to determine if the allergies are caused by an immune deficiency. Giving a higher nutritional organic diet is stopped, what the Lady's allergies at all. Continuous paw licking stoppedcomplete, because their immune system has been improved, which in turn eliminate their allergies. There was also a dramatic improvement is their overall health, well being and activity.

Seasonal Allergies

If you notice your dog chewing and scratching more in the morning, after he / she comes from outside, then it is possible that he / she is sensitive to pollen, mold spores, ragweed or other environmental factors, as we are. Allergies can also include a sensitivity toDust, and some dogs are allergic to dust mites. Environmental allergens are usually treated with anti-inflammatory drugs or other prescription medication from your vet.

Food Allergies

Chewing the feet can be an indicator of food allergies. Although food allergies are less common in dogs, they can become severe. I think that either feeding of organic all natural premium dog food or recipes, and your dog's food to helpTo eliminate food allergies. Give you a wide selection to begin with, and are beginning to see any new food over a period of several weeks whether the chewing increases or decreases. Keeping a careful watch what your pet eats, and noting changes in behavior shortly after the change makes the difference between catching an unknown food allergy.

So what is really the cause?

The first priority for the owners of the dog fighting dog skin problems or allergiesshould be to immediately switch to an organic based diet, whether at home or a premium brand. A certification will be used by over 70% organic products should be on the label to make sure you buy a high quality, premium food for your dog, with the first ingredient is meat, of course. An organic certification by 95% (of which there are several) is equal to the human grade food. This is something that will definitely not hurt your pet, and isto begin the easiest and cheapest way to find out what the cause of the licking and allergies. Remember, just because your dog does not do well, Lamb does not mean that he will not buy, even on a basic chicken feed. The premium organic dog food that I got for my lady for pets with skin allergies marked, and that is what I believe cured their problem itchy skin. This was for current year, with the medical treatment of prednisone,Antihistamines and expensive vet bills for expensive allergy testing and after all, what the diagnosis was clear. The real key is to watch your dog 's pattern.
